Basic Seamless Graphic Tutorial
This tutorial assumes no knowlege of graphic creation. Here we introduce using a sinus patter to create a tileable background that virtually anyone can make. We will use the GIMP, an image creation and editing application that is available freely, so there’s no excuses. If you don’t have the GIMP go ahead and download it now. I promise if you can handle the installing the program part, I can guide you the rest of the way.
Now let’s start the program. First thing we need to do is create a new Image. Click file, then new, just like in most programs. In the dialog box that appears just make sure that you change the Fill Type setting to Transparent. Then click OK and a blank screen will present itself.
Before we start working on the image we need to open up the layers dialog. You can do this by either hitting Control-L or by using the main toobar and selecting File-Dialogs-Layers. There should now be a new dialog box on the screen that has 1 layer named background in it.
<-Take a look at the layers dialog
See the eye to the left the background layer? Clicking the eye on and off either makes the layer visible or invisible. Now click between the eye and the background layer’s thumbnail. This will bring up a lock sign that prevents you from changing the contents of that layer. Let’s keep it selected for now.
Along the bottom of the layers dialogs are some buttons to control your layers. You can add, delete, duplicate, move, and anchor your layers here. For now let’s click the far left button to create a new layer. Actually, create two new layers.
